Playwriting Competitions

Oscar Wilde 800x560

Beverly Hills is in the heart of the West Coast entertainment industry! Plays are read by industry professionals, successful playwrights, and longtime theatre lovers. Many of the plays submitted over the years have been produced at local theatres as full productions or public readings. Our goal is to discover new theatrical works and to encourage established and emerging writers to create quality works for the theatre. This international competition was established by Neil Simon in 1977 and renamed in 1985 to honor Julie Harris in appreciation of her continuing encouragement to playwrights.

Entries must be accompanied by the Application Form and in accordance with the Submission Policies and Procedures. We accept scripts that are postmarked from January 1st to March 31st. All scripts received after the postmark deadline cannot qualify and will not be returned. Submissions must include a $25 Application Fee.
